Very few problems cannot be solved under a barbell. This is a lesson I learned LONG ago. I am high strung to say the least. Call it what you like, type A, high maintenance, busy, driven, etc... whatever, I rarely sit down and I like things done a certain way. Although age has calmed me down, I am always looking for the next project or adventure.
I have a lot of energy flowing out and around me. It needs somewhere to go. We all need some sort of relief for the stresses of life. There are plenty of unhealthy options for stress relief- eating, drinking, smoking, drugs, screaming, etc...
Exercise is the most underutilized anti-anxiety/anti-stress/antidepressant there is. When is the last time you went to the doctor and they suggested exercise as a treatment for your condition?
The barbell is the great equalizer. It doesn't care if you are fat or thin, young or old, happy or sad, smart or dumb, rich or poor, tall or short... it only cares that you lift it. In any given CrossFit class you will find neurosurgeons next to dishwashers next to students, next to grandparents. Everyone is striving to be the best version of themselves. All social norms and socioeconomic measures disappear. It is beautiful and it is my daily salvation.
What is yours?
